HOW WE OPERATE

Some frequently asked questions

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE THE SESSION?

I use the innovative online career direction tool, Career Sense Insight©, specifically designed for the New Zealand market and education environment to help you  develop a picture of what really matters to you in a career. It is very easy to use, gathers your information quickly and efficiently and is a huge appointment time saver for both the client and practitioner. Once you have set up an appointment, I will send you a link to access Career Sense Insight©.  It costs $90 to use, which you pay to Career Sense when you register online to do the questionnaires.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE SESSION?

Appointments are confidential and I only share your information with others with your permission. We will discuss your questionnaire answers and from this, as well as the results from the assessments you would have done, some career themes should emerge. Note that I will not tell you what careers to choose, merely present the evidence to you so that you can make an informed decision. Once this is done, we look at how to research career, where good information is found and I will advise on appropriate study directions for the career/s of choice.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Like most professionals, I charge an hourly rate for my services and I invoice you for my time spent at the conclusion of our time together. Most appointments last between 2.5 an 3 hours and cost between $520 and $570

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE SESSION?

After approximately two hours with you the client on your own, we invite your caregiver/support person to join us for a report back. This gives you the opportunity of sharing your findings, with my support, with another person. I am a strong believer that career planning is a team effort and the more people you have on your team, the more effective the outcome. I also provide you with a comprehensive report on our findings as well as originals of all our working documents and information sheets. If appropriate, I also give you booklets from the various tertiary training providers.

How we Operate: FAQ

ZOOM/ONLINE APPOINTMENTS

I have counselled clients from the USA, Australia, South Africa, the UK and locally from Wanaka to Whangarei. While I prefer to meet clients in person, I accept that sometimes this is not practically possible. Our system is specifically designed to cater for online sessions and I am happy to accommodate any requests for an online appointment.

FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS

I do not only offer a "one stop" service. My focus is to support clients through the entire career planning journey. From the initial profiling appointment, to assistance with where to train once a career decision is made, to applying for that first job. I also assist clients who wish to make a career change as well as those returning to the work force after time away from the world of work.

HOW LONG DO APPOINTMENTS LAST

Most appointments last about three hours. The first two hours are spent with the you on your own and the final hour is spent reporting back to your parent/caregiver/support person. Time taken is dependent on the number of questions you have and how quickly you process the information provided.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE APPOINTMENT

I will email you resources in the form of power points, links and documents to help you start your career research. If you or your care givers have a question, feel free to call or email me and I will endeavour to answer your questions as soon as I am able. I also send out a short newsletter every couple of months on career related matters.
